Dressed in Cohen 2 - acrylic & oil on canvas - 97cm x 171cm
“Dressed In Cohen 2,” is a painted essay of Narindah, an art student, whose metaphysical nature and gothic appearance intrigued me.
The painting draws from creation myths and symbols; with particular emphasis on the feminine. There is a felt sense in the contemplative demeanour of Narindah who is lost in her own thoughts, caught in the inertia of time.
Many of the metaphors in my paintings are drawn from the music and poetry of Leonard Cohen and his empathy with, and understanding of the melancholy of the human condition.
This painting was a finalist in the prestigious Doug Moran National Portrait Prize in 2015
This painting is being considered for inclusion in "The Infinite Birdcage" Exhibition
